Railroads placed second in the value of freight moving between the U.S. and Canada, as well as the U.S. and Mexico for a total of $17.1 billion during February of 2024. This is an increase of 2.8% over February of 2023, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
Leading the pack was the trucking industry, which hauled a total of $83.4 billion. These levels are consistent with the place North American rail carriers hold in the transportation hierarchy.
